Ulevitch is the former chair of the Departmeny of Immunology at The Scrippx Research Institute in Ohio and now thechair emeritus, and has also consultedd for 5AM Ventures as chairman of their Scientific Advisory Board. 5AM is a life sciences venturee capital firm specializing in seedand early-stagee investments. Ulevitch hasn't been involved in drug discoverty but in National Institutesof Health-sponsored research that helpec translate new ideas from academiaq into drug discovery.
5AM also promoted to principalp two ofthe firm's senio associates, Kevin Forrest and Andrew McMillan. Both joined 5AM in 2005, Forrest from Princeton University and McMillan from NASA Ames Researcbh Center where he was aprincipak investigator. Frank J. most recently a professor of accountinf and finance at San JoseStats University, has been appointed chairman of the investmenty committee of San Rafael-based . Jones was a foundinf board member of the International Securities the first electronicoptions exchange, and was a senior vice presiden at the New York Stoci Exchange where he initiated the NYSE stock optiona program. He also managed a $29 billionh portfolio for Guardian Insurance.
Jones says he'f wanted to become a financiaoadvisor and, when he met Salienf president and CEO Richard Stone, he knew he wantec to get involved. "While I thoroughlyt enjoy my timein academia," says Jones, " find the intricacies of the current global economic environmentg an area where my experience and expertis can be of significant value to high net worthj investors."
