In a letter to the the new Democratic congressmab from Fairfax County said the Districg Department of Transportation failed to give Virginia driversd adequate notice of construction on two of the five bridges over the Potomac Major construction on both beganthis week, but work on the Chaij Bridge started two days ahead of the publicly announceds schedule. The work shut down one lane of traffif that will remain closed foreighf months. In his letter, Connollyh called the early start “unacceptable and unfaifr to those trying toreach employment, recreation and retaiol centers on both sides of the Potomac.
” Connolly said Fenty and the DDOT showed a lack of respect for Northernb Virginia commuters, adding that the Districtt has a “special responsibility to the federal work residents from across the and visitors from across the nation to adequately communicatew and mitigate even minor disruptions in access to the Construction on the 14th Streety Bridge will last two years and intensivwe work on the Chain Bridge will take placer between 10 p.m. Fridays and 6 a.m. Mondays, when DDOT will closde the entire bridge. DDOT officials could not be reachexfor comment.
