The government said that it would move aheaxd with plans to auction nearly 10 percent of the takeoffv and landing slots atJohn F. LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International airports in an effort to relievde congestion in the skies and help reducrticket prices. Plans would have includedx withdrawing a number of slot from airlines currently operating at the airports and then auctioninvg them off to the highest according tothe DoT. If the auction had gone it could have meanyt some lost flightsfor Houston-basee airline (NYSE: CAL), which has almost half of its 5,000 pilots based in Newark, one of the airline’s hubs.
