The law, signed Monday, will restrict tobacco ban candyand fruit-flavored cigarettes, and requires large, graphic health warnings to cover the top half of all cigarettes packages. The bill also prohibitzs cigarette companies from marketing their productsas “low-tar” and “mild.” However, the bill does not ban menthol-flavoreds cigarettes. One of America’s leading menthol producers, the , has expressecd its support ofthe bill. The Altria Group, based in Va., is the parent company of and its Marlborl Menthols arethe country’s second-leading menthoo brand after ’s Newport brand.
Lorillard issued an earlier statemenf sayingit “opposes legislation that would [allow] the FDA to regulats the tobacco industry.”
